Local School Playgrounds Nationwide

School surfaces work hard. A playground takes running feet all day, a multi-use games area needs an even finish that plays true, and the staff car park and footpaths have to be safe for parents and visitors at the busiest times of day. Worn, cracked or puddled tarmac soon becomes a trip hazard and another line on the risk register.

SN Enterprises Ltd resurfaces and repairs playgrounds, MUGAs, courts, footpaths and car parks for schools and colleges across the Midlands and beyond. The tarmac used for play and sport is chosen to cope with weather and heavy use, and new markings go down once it is ready, from games and number grids to court lines.

Most of the work is booked for school holidays, when the site is empty. When a job has to happen in term time, the working area is fully fenced off from pupils, and deliveries and plant movements are timed around drop-off and pick-up.

How the job runs

How we work on school sites

  • 1

    Step 01

    Free site survey

We survey at a time that suits the school, check each surface and its drainage, and give your bursar or business manager a written quote.

  • 2

    Step 02

    Holiday scheduling

Work is booked into the holiday that fits your budget and calendar, with the areas sequenced so each one is finished before pupils need it back.

  • 3

    Step 03

    Fenced, safe works

The site is fenced, keys and access are agreed with the caretaker, and the surfaces are prepared, laid and compacted to an even finish.

  • 4

    Step 04

    Markings and handover

Play and court markings are applied once the surface is ready, the area is cleaned, and we walk it with you before handing the site back.

Pricing

What affects the cost of school surfacing

School surfacing is quoted per site after a free survey, and the scope can be split across budget years if that helps.

Get a fixed written quote
  • 01

    Existing surface condition

A sound playground may only need an overlay, while areas with broken edges, tree root damage or a failed base need excavating first.

  • 02

    Sports or play use

Courts and MUGAs need a flatter, more even finish than a general playground, which means extra preparation and care in laying.

  • 03

    Markings required

A few games markings cost far less than full court lines for several sports, so the marking plan is priced as its own item.

  • 04

    Access and timing

Narrow gates, access through buildings or term-time working with extra fencing all add time compared with an open site in the holidays.

FAQs

School playground questions

Can the work be done during the school holidays?

Yes, and that is how most school jobs are planned. Summer is the longest window, but half terms and the Easter and Christmas breaks suit smaller areas. It helps to book early, as holiday slots fill up, and to tell us about any holiday clubs or lettings using the site so access and fencing can be planned around them.

Is your team DBS checked?

Yes, our team is DBS checked. On most school jobs the site is empty, but where work has to happen in term time the area is fenced off from pupils, access is agreed with the caretaker or site manager, and plant movements are kept away from drop-off and pick-up. We are happy to follow your school's own sign-in and safeguarding procedures.

Can you add play markings after resurfacing?

Yes. Once the new surface is ready, markings can be applied for games, number grids, hopscotch, running tracks or court lines for netball, basketball and tennis. You can keep your existing layout or use the fresh surface to rethink it. Markings are quoted separately, so you decide how much of the playground to mark.

What surface do you lay for a MUGA or court?

MUGAs and courts are usually surfaced in a macadam, often a porous one that lets rainwater drain through so the court dries quickly after rain. The right choice depends on the sports played and the condition of the existing base. At survey we check the base and drainage and recommend the surface and markings to suit how the area is used.

Can you resurface the staff car park at the same time?

Yes, and combining the jobs often makes sense, because the plant and crew are already on site and access only has to be arranged once. Car parks, drop-off areas, footpaths and the playground can be quoted together or as separate items, so governors can approve the full scope or phase it over more than one year.
