Line Marking

Local Line Marking Nationwide

Faded bays and worn arrows cost you more than looks. Drivers straddle two spaces, delivery vans cut across pedestrian routes and visitors struggle to find the entrance. Fresh markings bring order back to a car park, a yard or a warehouse floor, and show anyone inspecting the site that safety is being managed.

From our base in Bedworth we mark out new surfaces and renovate worn layouts for businesses, schools, councils and private estates across Birmingham, Coventry, Solihull, Wolverhampton and the wider Midlands, and we travel further when a project calls for it. We have worked on premises for Costa Coffee, KFC and McDonald's, where a clear customer car park matters.

Because we also lay tarmac, lining can be the final stage of a resurfacing job, or a standalone visit to refresh markings on the surface you already have. Either way, your layout is drawn up to make the best use of the space.

Thermoplastic or paint: which suits your site

Most outdoor markings we lay are thermoplastic. It is heated until molten, applied in a thicker layer than paint and bonds to the surface as it cools, so it stands up to tyres, turning traffic and winter weather for far longer. Glass beads dropped onto the hot line reflect headlights, keeping bays and arrows visible after dark, and the line is ready to drive on within minutes.

Paint suits internal floors, low-traffic areas and temporary layouts, and costs less at the outset, though it needs recoating more often under heavy use. Where thermoplastic goes onto concrete outdoors, the surface is primed first so the line grips instead of peeling. At survey we recommend a material for each area, not one blanket choice.

Accessible parking that works for the people using it

Accessible bays (still widely called DDA bays, after the Disability Discrimination Act that the Equality Act 2010 replaced) need more than a wheelchair symbol. They need hatched space beside and behind the bay so a driver or passenger can get a wheelchair out or lower a ramp safely, and they belong close to the entrance on level ground.

In your layout, accessible and parent and child bays go where they are genuinely useful, and hatching is kept clear of trolley shelters and bollards. EV bays are positioned to suit the cable reach of the chargers. It all helps you meet your duty to make reasonable adjustments for disabled visitors.

Why choose us

Why businesses choose us for line marking

  • Layouts planned, not guessed

Every bay and route is set out from a measured survey, so you get the most usable spaces and traffic moves around the site the way you intended.

  • Clean surfaces first

Lines only last if they bond. We sweep, dry and prime where needed before application, which is why our markings wear slowly instead of flaking off.

  • Over 20 years in surfacing

Two decades of tarmac and lining work means drainage, surface or layout problems get spotted at survey, before they show up in your new markings.

  • SafeContractor Gold, DBS checked

Gold status with SafeContractor and a DBS checked team make us straightforward to approve for schools, hospitals and sites with strict contractor vetting.

  • £10m insured, work guaranteed

We hold £10 million public liability insurance and guarantee all our work, which protects you when lining is carried out on busy public sites.

How the job runs

How a line marking job runs

  • 1

    Step 01

    Survey and layout

We visit, measure the area and discuss how it is used, then draw up a bay and marking layout that makes the most of your space and suits your traffic.

  • 2

    Step 02

    Surface preparation

The surface is swept clean and must be dry. Old lines that clash with the new layout are removed, and concrete is primed so thermoplastic bonds rather than lifts.

  • 3

    Step 03

    Setting out and lining

Every line is set out before application, so bays come out square and evenly spaced. Thermoplastic goes down hot and beaded, while paint is applied by machine.

  • 4

    Step 04

    Check and handover

We walk the finished layout with you, check each bay and symbol against the agreed plan, clear our kit and reopen the area once the markings have set.

Pricing

What affects the price of line marking

Every quote is itemised after a free site survey, so you can see what each part of the layout costs.

Get a fixed written quote
  • 01

    Amount of marking

Price follows the total length of lining and the number of bays, symbols, arrows and hatched areas, so a simple restripe costs less than a full new layout.

  • 02

    Material choice

Thermoplastic costs more to apply than paint but lasts much longer under traffic, so it usually works out cheaper over the life of an outdoor layout.

  • 03

    Removal of old lines

If existing markings conflict with the new plan, they have to come off first. Hydroblasting adds to the job but avoids burn marks and ghost lines.

  • 04

    Surface condition and access

Badly worn or broken tarmac may need repairs before lining. Working around trading hours, or phasing the job to keep spaces open, also shapes the quote.

FAQs

Line marking questions

Can you remove old line markings without damaging the surface?

Yes. We use hydroblasting, a high-pressure water jet that strips the marking material away while leaving the tarmac or concrete underneath largely intact. It avoids the black scorch marks that burning off leaves behind, and the ghost lines you get from simply painting over old markings. Where a surface is very worn, scabbling may suit better, and we explain the options at survey.

How soon can cars drive on new markings?

It depends on the material. Thermoplastic cools and hardens within minutes, so a lined area can usually reopen soon after the last bay is finished. MMA cold plastic also sets quickly. Water-based and solvent paints take longer to dry, and we tell you how long to keep traffic off before work starts, so you can plan deliveries and staff parking around it.

Can line marking be done in wet weather?

Not the application itself. Markings need a clean, dry surface to bond, and lines laid on damp tarmac can lift or flake early. We watch the forecast closely, and on marginal days small areas can be dried with a heat lance. Removal work such as hydroblasting is far less affected by rain, so it can often go ahead.

Do I need accessible parking bays in my car park?

If your car park serves customers, visitors or staff, the Equality Act 2010 expects you to make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and accessible bays near the entrance are a common part of that. Planning conditions or your landlord may also set a minimum number. We can set out bays with the transfer space they need and advise on placement during the free site survey.

Is thermoplastic suitable for inside a warehouse?

Thermoplastic is designed for outdoor surfaces that take vehicle traffic and weather. Inside, most warehouses and factories are better served by floor paints or coatings made for concrete, which go down cleanly around racking and can be recoated during a shutdown. For walkways, forklift routes and hazard zones, we recommend a system based on how much traffic the floor takes and how it is cleaned.
